About the channel

Who runs PriceyMonk, what gets a slot on the channel, and how the whole thing is funded.

PriceyMonk runs discount codes and sale offers the way a broadcaster runs a schedule. Shops go on air with a promotion, the promotion has a start and a finish, and when its time is up it comes off. That is the whole idea, and it decides how this site is built.

Who is behind the desk

The channel belongs to Nimra Suhaib and is operated from 2110 Rockport St, Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Nobody else holds a stake in it. There is no editorial board, no agency, no investor with a view on which shops get a slot. The registered details sit in the imprint, and the contact page reaches the same desk that writes the pages.

This is a small operation, and that matters more than it sounds. An editor reads every card before it airs. A person replies to the messages. Nothing here is the output of a machine left running unattended.

What goes on air

Two things get a slot. A code is a string the shop asks you to type into the promo box before you pay. An offer is a sale where the shelf price already carries the reduction and there is nothing to type. Both are filed against the shop they belong to and printed with the date the shop said they finish.

  • The conditions ride on the card. A minimum basket, selected lines, first orders only — whatever the shop attached is set out beside the offer, readable on a phone without opening anything. Where a shop wrote its own terms for a promotion, those are the words you get.
  • Off air means off air. The morning an end date passes, the offer drops out of every list, every filter and every count on this channel. It stays on that shop’s own page for three weeks, struck through and labelled, so you can see it was pulled rather than quietly buried. Then it goes.
  • Buttons say what they will do first. Under every control is a line telling you, before you press it, that it puts the code on screen and opens the shop in a new tab.

What will never go on air

No star ratings, because we have surveyed nobody. No counts of shoppers, because we count no shoppers. No badge claiming every code was retested at dawn, because nobody tests several hundred codes before breakfast and we would sooner describe the real process. No invented countdown clock to hurry you along. Every number printed on this channel — shops, offers, codes, discounts — was either counted from what is published or came from the retailer.

How the channel is funded

Take an offer from here to a shop, buy something, and that shop may pay us a share of the sale through an affiliate network. Your bill is identical to what it would have been had you walked in any other way. Paying us buys no slot, no position in the running order and no badge. The sponsorship notice spells this out at length.

The rules we run to

We work to the IAB UK Affiliate Marketing Council’s Code of Conduct for Vouchers, version 4.0, which the networks require of publishers; to Awin’s Code of Conduct for Publishers; and to the FTC’s guidance on disclosing a paid relationship. The coupon code policy takes those rules one at a time and says what this channel does about each, so you can measure the site against the text instead of trusting a summary.

When we get it wrong

Codes fail. Shops change conditions without telling anybody. We would rather hear it than not: send it through the contact page and the card comes down the same working day. Brands, photographers and networks asking for a removal get the same answer, usually within hours, and we do not ask for a reason.
