Sponsorship notice

PriceyMonk is paid by the shops it features. What that buys, what it cannot buy, and how the tracking works.

PriceyMonk is funded by the shops it features. This page says how that works, what the money buys, and what it does not.

The short version

Press an offer on this channel, land at a shop, buy something — and that shop may pay us a commission through an affiliate network. You pay the shop’s price. Nothing is added, nothing is diverted, and the total at the till is the same as if you had typed the shop’s address into your browser yourself.

The mechanics

Retailers run affiliate programmes through networks such as Awin. A publisher joins the programme and is given a tracking link for that shop. When you follow one, the network sets a cookie in your browser recording that the visit began here. If an order follows inside that shop’s tracking window, the network credits the sale to us and the shop pays a percentage, usually somewhere between one and ten. Nobody at this end sees your name, your basket or your card. What arrives is a number of sales and a number of dollars.

Every outbound link on this channel carries rel="nofollow sponsored", which is the plain machine-readable declaration that the link is commercial.

What sponsorship does not buy

  • A slot. Shops appear because their offers pass the screens on the how we check page, not because of what they pay.
  • A position. The running order across the guide, the charts and every list is set by the shop’s own published discount, the end date and how recently the card arrived. Commission is not one of the inputs, and there is no paid slot anywhere on this site.
  • A better price for us or a worse one for you. A commission is paid by the shop out of its own margin. Your price does not move.
  • Silence. A shop that pays well gets no protection. If its code stops working it comes down like any other.

Where you will see this said

A notice sits under the channel bar on every page of this site. A second line appears above every list of offers. The footer repeats it. And this page exists so the full explanation is one click away from anywhere. The FTC asks that a material connection be disclosed clearly and near the recommendation; we would rather over-say it than have you find out later.

Links that are not commercial

Not every link here earns anything. Links between our own pages, links to a regulator, a code of conduct or a news report are plain links and carry no tracking of ours. Where a shop has no affiliate programme, or we are not accepted into it, the card either does not air or points at the shop’s own address with nothing attached.

Questions

If anything above is unclear, or you want to know whether a particular card earns us anything, ask at the contact page and you will get a straight answer.
